Your musical haven in nature

Imagine your own creative garden music room located in the natural landscape of your garden. The opportunity for creativity to flow as you play your instruments, sing your heart out to your favourite songs or sit back with a drink listening to The Dark Side of the Moon – or perhaps something a bit less trippy – is a music aficionado’s dream with a garden music studio.

Garden music studios and planning permission

UK planning permission laws state that you can build a studio that is up to 50% of the total area of your garden without the need for planning permission. However, it must also meet other criteria including:

  • The building must be less than 2.5 m (8.2 feet).
  • The area of your garden that is free of pre-existing structures, such as sheds, greenhouses, etc) is subject to the 50% rule.
  • The music studio must not be placed adjacent to your property, mainly in front of your house.
  • The music studio can’t be used as sleeping accommodation, or have plumbing, toilet, or waste disposal installed.
  • The music studio must not be used for business purposes.

Your garden music studio will need planning permission and additional building restrictions must be met if it does not meet all the aforementioned requirements. A garden studio may be constructed on your property inside a conservation area, provided that it is situated in the back garden rather than the front or side of the building. To build a music garden studio on a listed building, planning permission is necessary.

Experience a world of limitless possibilities with the OGEL garden room, a space that allows you to bring your unique vision to life.

What is a garden music studio?

A garden music studio is a separate building located in your garden with double-skinned walls and fantastic acoustics, for you to listen, play and record music. Here at Ogel, we’ve designed our buildings to be 88% lighter than brick, without skimping on the quality of insulation, meaning you’ll be able to comfortably use your garden music studio, all year round.

Picture this – you’re in the mood to put on your favourite artist or band, turn the speakers up and boogie to the beat. Often when we want to do this, we’re told to keep the noise down but with a garden music studio, the noise will be contained leaving you as the only person who can hear the great tunes. The same goes for when you’re playing or recording live music – you can have a space where you feel inspired whilst providing clear acoustic sound with minimal disruption to the neighbours in the surrounding areas.

We can customise your garden music room to fit your specific needs, creating outlets and stations for your mixing technology, amplifiers, lighting appliances and more. No matter the setup you require, we’ll have it made.

Affordable garden music studios tailored to your dreams

With prices starting from £6000, our eco-friendly Garden Music Studios offer exceptional value for a truly one-of-a-kind musical haven. Each project is approached with a deep understanding of your aspirations, resulting in a studio that becomes an extension of your musical identity.

View the stunning array of flowers and plant life you have in your garden from your music studio, offering tranquillity when you’re practicing your instruments, composing the next musical masterpiece or recording songs. Surround yourself with your musical inspiration with posters, CDs, vinyl and more of your favourite artists and bands to help you get into the right zone. Your garden music room is made from recycled plastic, with double-skinned walls that act as a great acoustic environment.

What are the benefits of a garden music studio?

The benefits of a garden music studio are almost endless, enabling musicians and enthusiasts to have their own personalised space to enjoy what they love most. Consider a garden music studio as your personal music hub, with comfy sofas and ample space for all your instruments and equipment, in addition to being constructed from high-quality, sustainable materials.

Ogel is passionate about the environment. That’s why we aim to use recycled materials and turn them into a product that never has to be remade – unlike timber, our garden music studios and other rooms don’t rot, leaving you without the worry of repairs or replacements.

Our music garden studios feature all-year temperature control, with features from convection radiators or underfloor heating to air conditioning, so you can guarantee comfort no matter the season.

Convenient and cost-effective

The average price for a conservatory is £15,000 which means you’ll spend less and save more with our garden rooms per square metre. Even our largest-sized garden room is cheaper than traditional garden rooms without a reduction in quality. You’ll be able to simply step into your garden music studio whenever you feel like it, without worrying about weather conditions, thanks to interior heating and cooling, as well as sustainable and durable materials, built to last.

The perfect acoustic environment

Our garden music studios are all lined with double-skinned walls that help to create the perfect acoustic environment. The sound quality when playing and recording music will be crystal clear and pitch perfect, making this the ideal alternative to spending costs on hiring a music studio, and you won’t have to compromise on sound quality as you would when recording in a different indoor space.

Inspire musical brilliance with our garden music studios

Sometimes finding inspiration can be troublesome and, now and again, we will struggle to create the best art possible. A garden music room will allow for creative inspiration, as studies have shown nature can help you overcome creative blocks and improve your memory and overall mental health. If you’re finding it hard to get creative with your riffs, chords and vocals, take a quick break and step out into your garden. Relish in the gorgeous smell of your flowers, listen to the birds chirp and embrace a cool summer breeze, all of which will help get you back in your rock n’ roll, jazzy, punk or classical musical mindset.

Display all manner of musical instruments in your garden music room. Display a grand piano, hang up your electric guitars and bang your drum kit to your heart’s content as a garden music studio can be large enough to house all types of instruments.

How to soundproof an outdoor music studio

Soundproofing your garden music studio is key as blasting tunes out won’t be popular with the neighbours. We help to ensure your garden music studio is as soundproofed as possible thanks to the highly durable, and insulated recycled plastic materials we use to build them. When we fit the prefabricated pieces together, they will form a tight seal preventing air gaps that can let sound in or out. There are additional ways we can help to soundproof your outdoor music studio, such as:

Soundproof doors

We can provide you with soundproof doors that can be double-glazed to ensure your music and sounds stay well within the confines of your studio. You can choose from a range of door designs with our build your OGEL app, including French (1500 mm), standard (1000 mm), standard plus side panel (1500 mm) and more. Your design is your own, and to provide higher soundproofing qualities to your doors, consider sealing the edges with acoustic seals or weatherstripping them.

Soundproof windows

Like the doors we build for your garden music studio, the windows will be double glazed – you could also consider getting them triple-glazed to provide ample soundproofing ability. Indeed, with additional application of a sealant will ensure little to no sound will get in or out of your garden music studio. Acoustic caulk can also be used as a measure to fill gaps and prevent sound leakage.

Soundproofing studio walls

Our recycled plastic material used to construct your garden music studio will provide incredible soundproofing properties, and we often perform double wall construction with an air gap between them which reduces overall sound transfer. Our exterior vinyl wrap also helps to increase the mass of the walls, therefore reducing the leakage of noise.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I build a music studio in my garden? 2023-08-22T13:06:39+01:00

You can build your own music studio in your garden as long as you adhere to the restrictions that won’t require you to have planning permission. If you are building a music studio that is over 2.5 m tall or is being used as living accommodation, as well as other considerations, you will need to apply for planning permission before any construction takes place.

You can get in touch with OGEL for us to build a music studio in your garden, all made from 100% recycled plastic waste that is prefabricated and then built in your garden.

Does the floor need to be insulated? 2023-08-22T13:04:58+01:00

We highly recommend your garden music studio floor should be insulated. This helps reduce vibration, sound escaping and will provide protection for the overall structure of your studio.

How can I keep the room well-ventilated? 2023-08-22T13:03:40+01:00

A well-ventilated garden music studio is a must to ensure the comfort of the users, protect equipment and instruments and ensure a healthy environment. Ways to keep your garden music studio well ventilated include promoting cross-ventilation by placing windows on opposite sides of the studio, adding roof vents to allow warm air to escape, installing portable or fixed air conditioners and installing air purifiers and dehumidifiers. Your OGEL garden music studio can be fitted with cross-ventilation features as well as additional methods that allow for good ventilation.
