According to the Office of National Statistics, 84% of UK workers who telecommuted during the last three years said they planned to split their working hours between the home and workplace moving forward.

The need for a garden office has risen, and people want to work from home as it gives them the opportunity to boost their daily performance. If you are unsure of how to do this then this article is going to show you how you can increase your productivity by showing a real life example.

Client Case Study | Christine's Garden Studio | Design your own Ogel Building

Say hello to Christine…

Christine is an avid stained glass and jewellery maker. She was introduced to OGEL by watching our pitch on BBC’s Dragons’ Den.

So what did Christine want from OGEL?

It was very clear that Christine needed a building all year-round so she could rediscover her hobby of glass making. She described herself as a ‘cold-morsel’… she needed a place where she could control the temperature but also be well insulated, meaning somewhere cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

Christine wanted a building with specific lighting set up to her specifications so it did not shadow her work, given that stained glass making can be quite meticulous. In addition, Christine wanted a workbench that was set up at a height that would not hurt her back.

How did OGEL cater for Christine’s needs?

Temperature control in an OGEL building.

One of the big advantages of using the OGEL material (recycled plastic) is that it is a great insulator – meaning it’s cool in summer and warm in winter – though it is recommended to have at least one radiator depending on the building. This meant that Christine could work in a temperature that suits her.

Sound control in an OGEL pod.

Our pods come with double skin walls which provide great acoustics… this lets Christine to dedicate 100% of her concentration on her stained glass and jewellery making.

Light control in an OGEL pod.

Christine opted for a side window which allows her to benefit from natural light coming through the large doors and window.

Privacy in an OGEL pod.

An OGEL garden studio offers full privacy in the form of seclusion away from neighbours and even family members, meaning Christine can dedicate 100% of her attention to her hobby.

Maintenance in an OGEL pod.

It’s simple… OGEL pods require zero maintenance. This means that Christine can spend more time making stained glass and jewellery, rather than cleaning and repairing her OGEL garden studio.

What was Christine’s reaction?

“I have wanted a place to do my hobbies for years… mainly stained glass and jewellery making.

Once I heard about OGEL buildings being made out of recycled materials, my ears pricked up. It seemed ideal to reuse materials that would go to landfill rather than cut down more trees. I loved the ‘Lego’ style connection and the fact that it is a modular building.

I needed a year-round, all-weather space… being a cold morsel, I wouldn’t survive in a shed. The insulating properties of the build seemed ideal for my requirements.

I love the fact that the building is modern and clean, and that the lighting has been set up to my specifications so I don’t shadow my work.

The bench was also set up to suit my specific needs. It’s deep enough to take on larger projects and provides masses of space beneath for storage. Its height was set up to avoid any back pain. It’s been perfect so far… no back problems at all.

My ‘poddle’ is like my own little Tardis. It’s a comfortable, clean, bright, adaptable hobby space and I love it!”
